Original Medicare does not cover Part D prescription drugs. You must purchase a Part D plan from a private insurance company if you’d like drug coverage. Most Medicare Advantage plans include Part D. If you decide that a Medicare Supplement is right for you, you’ll want to enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan. If you don’t choose a Part D plan, you may have a permanent penalty if you decide you’d like a Part D plan later on.
